Freedom of the City of Cork

Roll of the Honorary Burgesses of the City of Cork The custom of awarding the "Freedom of the City" whereby persons distinguished for public service become Honorary Burgesses of a City dates from the 14th century. Churchtown Historical and Heritage Society

Churchtown Village Renewal Trust was set up by a local entrepreneur in 1997. Tracton Heritage

Tracton got its name from the Cistercian  Monastic  Foundation of 1224. Whitland Abbey in Wales was the mother house of Tracton so the Cork foundation was called,  ’De Albo Tractu’ - from the White lands. The Latin name of the Abbey founded here was De Bello Portu.
