Distinguished guests ladies and gentlemen, I’m delighted to be here today at the unveiling of the commemorative plaque to Annie Moore, celebrated as the first person to land on Ellis Island in New York on the 1st. of January 1892. 12 million immigrants entered Ellis Island’s processing centre before its eventual closure.
